Several months ago I got one of the 3V Gear Rapid Deployment Packs. As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to build a First Aid/Trauma Kit for my car, using this bag as the base for all of it. And that’s exactly what I did…
3V Gear Rapid Deployment Pack
Before we get into the inside contents, we have to look at the exterior, because it’s set up strategically. There is a nice grab-handle on the top of the 3V Gear Rapid Deployment Pack, which is great for toting the bag to-and-from places.
But, I am personally using this grab handle to hold a CAT Tourniquet. It holds the tourniquet securely, but it’s as easy as unclipping two buckles, and I have the tourniquet ready to go.
Continuing on with exterior features, let’s talk about the waist strap found on the back of the Rapid Deployment Pack. You can absolutely use this as a waist strap and it’s very comfortable for that usage. But I personally use the strap to tether the bag to the back of my driver’s seat head-rest. It can quick-disconnect via a large buckle if I need to. Or I can rotate the bag around and access the contents from my driver’s seat.
Pro-Top: It is very important to make sure your car’s first aid kit is secured into a readily available location and cannot toss around if you get into an accident.
Car Trauma Kit
In addition to the tourniquet that I keep under the grab handle of my Rapid Deployment Pack, I keep a few other trauma items in one of the side pockets. As you can see in the picture above, I have swapped out the paracord zipper pull on this pocket for blaze orange. This lets me know that there is important lifesaving gear in this pocket.
In this pocket, I keep some type of hemostatic gauze for bleeding control (which happens to be Celox Z-Fold Gauze right now), an Israeli Bandage, and some medical gloves.
You will notice the medical gloves are a recurring item in each of the exterior pockets. I put these in each pocket in case I’m working on someone besides myself (to keep their blood off of me) and so I don’t have to search around each pocket to see which one my gloves are placed in.
Moving on to the front pocket of the 3V Gear Rapid Deployment Pack…
In here I keep a lot of gauze pads and roller gauze for bleeding control. I also keep a set of HyFin Vented Chest Seals, some trauma shears, and a few pairs of medical gloves.
Car First Aid Kit
In the final side pocket of my 3V Gear Rapid Deployment Pack, I keep some general first aid kit items. These items are for general cuts and scrapes. I stock it with Curad Quickstop Flex Bandages (my favorite bandages), 3M Steri-Strips for lacerations, some alcohol pads, and more medical gloves.
Truth be told, this is the most frequently used pocket of the entire bag. It seems like people are always needing bandaids.
The exterior pockets of the 3V Gear Rapid Deployment Pack cover most of my needs (and my current experience level) for first aid. However, they are a bit too small for items like a SAM Splint. So, I keep bulky items and extra supplies in this main compartment.
I also keep a small emergency fire kit and space blanket in this area to help with hypothermia or shock.
3V Gear Rapid Deployment Pack Review
The 3V Gear Rapid Deployment Pack is a very nice pack that has a lot of different uses. It can be worn as a sling, fanny pack, attached to molle/pals webbing, and a whole lot more. For me, however, it’s perfect for a first aid/trauma bag in my car kit. Check it out at 3VGear.com to see its other uses and learn more!
