Welcome to the start of my new weekly series, Behind The Lens! Every Monday I invite you to join me as we recap the 3 images that I’ve posted over on my Instagram the week before.
Behind the Lens will allow you to hear more about the images I’ve taken, see the gear I use and get a behind the scenes look at what I do. So, without further ado – Let’s hop into last week’s images!
OF LIGHT & DARK .
Behind the Image: “Of Light & Dark” is one of those images that everything seemed to come together perfectly. I was over at my parent’s house for a family dinner and happened to look out the window to see this epic full moon. I had my full camera kit with me, so I quickly hopped up to create this photo. I’m super stoked on this one and I’ve been really excited to see how many other people have gotten excited about it as well.
Gear Used: Fuji X-T20 . Fuji XF55-200mm . Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ (264CT) . Lowepro ProTactic 450AW
Gear Comments: The XF55-200 is a beast for these types of shots. I couldn’t have achieved this shot without it.
CAUGHT IN A MOMENT .
Behind the Image: The morning I captured “Caught In A Moment” was gorgeous and calm as could be. It was honestly a great reminder of why I do what I do. I woke up at 5 am that morning, drove about a half hour away and got there before the sun had even thought about coming up. The entire morning (and night, lol) was a reminder that I need to get out even more than I already do and shoot at those “inconvenient” times…Because the results are stunning.
Gear Used: Fuji X-T20 . Fuji XF23mm f1.4 . Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ (264CT) . Lowepro ProTactic 450AW . Gobe CPL Filter
Gear Comments: The angles and point of views that you can achieve with the Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ are limitless. Without it, this angle/point of view would not have been possible (paired with the longer shutter speed I was using). This is absolutely my new favorite tripod.
STAND TALL .
Behind the Image: “Stand Tall” was the first image I snapped during a recent trip my wife & I took through the Smoky Mountains. We were winding through back roads when I happened to look up at this mountain. The clouds immediately struck me, along with the sheer height of this mountain and I had to pull over to take my shot. (Pro-Tip: Always travel with your camera in your lap. It’s a lot easier to talk yourself into taking a shot this way, than if it’s tucked away in your bag.)
Gear Used: Fuji X-T20 . Fuji XF35mm f2
Gear Comments: The Fujifilm X-T20 is without a doubt my favorite camera body at this point. But when it’s paired with the XF35mm f2….Mmmm! It’s fantastic. This camera/body pairing weighs nothing. But the results are absolutely breathtaking. I actually took 95% of my Smoky Mountain shots with the X-T20 and 35mm f2.
