Welcome back to another week in my Behind The Lens series! As always, let’s dive in and review the 3 images I posted over on my Instagram last week.
CAUGHT IN THE IN BETWEEN .
Behind the Image: This was a beautiful and cold morning in which I woke up to spend next to the Lake. I set my camera and tripod up nearly an hour in advance. I fine-tuned my composition for nearly 20 minutes…Making sure the light would be perfect, the foreground would lead you in and the fog would add that moody effect I had in mind. Once everything was perfect, I waited for the sun to peak out over the horizon. As soon as it did, I fired away in continuous mode on my X-T20 ’till I captured the shot I had in mind.
Gear Used: Fuji X-T20 . Fuji XF23mm 1.4 . Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ . Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW II . Mindshift Filter Nest
Additional Comments: Gear only gets you so far with these types of shots. Don’t get me wrong, I love the gear I chose and it accommodated my vision perfectly. But, you need to have a defined idea of how you want your shot to turn out and leave time to properly execute it when you get into the field.
WAITING .
Behind the Image: During this entire Fall season, I have been searching high & low for the perfect image to show the beauty of this time of year. I waited patiently until this image presented itself one evening while I was at the lake.
Gear Used: Fuji X-T20 . XF55-200
Additional Comments: This was honestly a very simple shot with minimal gear involved. I was walking around with my 55-200 lens on my X-T20. I knew I wanted some beautiful reflections to lead me into the trees, so I hunkered down near the water’s edge to get the proper perspective. At that point, I framed up the rest, dialed in my settings + focal length and took my shot. I couldn’t have been happier with how this one turned out.
FACE YOUR FEARS .

Behind the Image: As of late, I’ve been facing my fears and doing a lot of things that will push me further along as a Creative and individual. If I’m honest, it’s a scary and vulnerable place to be in life. But, I always remind myself that nothing amazing happens in life if a bit of risk isn’t attached to it.
Gear Used: Fuji X-T20 . XF55-200 Lens . Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ (264CT) . Lowepro ProTactic 450 AWII
Additional Comments: This image was shot on a recent solo trip into the Smoky Mountains. I drove nearly 4 hours for this sunrise and the day presented so many amazing things along the way.
