My Favorite EDC Bag!
The Blue Ridge Overland Gear Bum Bag was my favorite piece of gear in 2022. I logged a lot of miles with that bag over my shoulder and it joined me on many fun adventures. In fact, it ended up becoming my preferred EDC Bag, when I couldn’t fit everything into my pockets or on my waistband.
Now, let’s fast-forward a bit:
This Carry Commission Edition hits the spot with its new colorway and leather branding…

If you’re unfamiliar with the Blue Ridge Overland Gear Bum Bag, here are a few of the main reasons why I love it…
- It is sized perfectly for a practical EDC bag (just remember to keep it lightweight).
- The strap is well suited for crossbody carry (which I prefer) or waist carry (or as I remember them from the 90’s – a “fanny pack” – teehee 🤭).
- The colors and design of the Bum Bag are unassuming and fit into everyday life very well. We (my wife and I) carry ours everywhere, every day.
- This bag is rugged and built to last. I beat on my original Blue Ridge Overland Gear Bum Bag all of last year, and it still looks new.
- At $40ish, you can not find a better bag on the market.

The Loadout…
Everyone on Instagram has been wanting to see the full loadout of my Blue Ridge Overland Gear Bum Bag…And I’m getting there. I will, probably, do that content as a YouTube Video (which, I’ll be sure to include here when it goes live). Social Media isn’t too fond of the type of things that I carry in my bag, as you can see above.
*Update: I still haven’t created a video for the standard-size Blue Ridge Overaland Gear Bum Bag. However, I have my Bum Bag XL loadout video included at the beginning of this article.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what I generally carry in my standard-size Bum Bag…
Blade:
I like to have some sort of compact fixed-blade knife in this kit. This one happens to be from Offensive Industries and it’s called the “Fenir”. I have been carrying this knife for several months and just realized I haven’t shared it with you all. It is a fantastic little blade that does 99% of the tasks you need to do, even with its compact size.
I, often, either have the Offensive Industries Fenir on hand. Or a similar, yet even smaller blade called the Tchotchke from Corvus Knife & Tool. These types of blades are so convenient & handy to have with me in the field.
Firearm:
I recently picked up a little Ruger LCP II in 22LR. I wanted something lightweight and compact, yet still accurate for this kit. And the Ruger LCP II provides me with all of the firepower that I need when tramping through our family’s farmlands. See the theme yet? Compact, yet highly functional gear.
*reference & obey all local laws before carrying a firearm and be responsible – this content does not endorse unlawful or negligent behavior.
Bandana:
The bandana in this kit is from my buddies at Wazoo Gear and it functions as a quick reference guide for animal tracks (in addition to the other 4,724 uses that a bandana has).
IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit):
As always, I have my trusted Helikon-Tex Micro Med Kit nearby. It is fully loaded with QuikClot, bandages, butterflies, and a few other necessities. (Not pictured for medical gear is my SOF Tourniquet)
Misc Gear:
Again, I’ll do a complete bag dump soon. But there are other little doodads in here that help me out in everyday life or during my adventures outdoors (some cordage, a small fishing kit, a mini fire kit, etc).
So there, we have it…
