Fällkniven R2 Scout Elmax
This week, the new Fällkniven R2 Scout in Elmax steel arrived here at the Awaken HQ and I am really excited about it! The R2 Scout is short but very stout with a blade length of 3.14″ inches, an overall length of 7.125″ and nearly a 1/4″ inch thick!
Here are my limited first impressions (more to come as I gain field-time with it):
- The knife fits small to medium-sized hands very well (think of this as a compact bushcraft/survival knife). It reminds me of a compact-sized Fällkniven F1.
- The blade grind is perfect, very symmetrical, and razor-sharp.
- The Zytel Sheath with secondary lock is solid. Having to release the lock before unsheathing will take some getting used to though.
- I haven’t had much experience with the R2 Scout just yet, besides making some simple feather sticks + kindling. So I will update this article later on with proper field experience.
Fällkniven Elmax Steel
This will be my first experience with Fällkniven’s Elmax blade steel (I’ve only used their VG10 in the Fällkniven F1 Pilot’s Knife). I’m really excited to see how the edge retention and ease of sharpening are with Elmax. I’ve heard good things…But field experience is what I care about seeing from here.
More to come…
I have obviously just gotten the R2 Scout, so I can’t speak for any field experience past a few feather sticks and busting up some kindling. But I wanted to give you all a heads up that this knife has entered my rotation. And I will update this page whenever I have more experience with this knife in the coming weeks and months.
If you have any questions or things you’d like to know about the Fallkniven R2 Scout please drop them below in the comments! I’ll do my best to include them in my upcoming content.
