Gerber 06 Auto
For the past few months, I have been carrying the Gerber 06 Auto…using it and abusing it as much as I possibly could. But first, let me rewind to 5 or 6 years ago. Back then, I wanted this knife so badly and I would always eyeball it in stores/online. When I finally got one I was like a kid at Christmas. But, how did I end up liking it? Gerber 06 Auto Quality Control
Let me just be honest with you all and start at the point where everyone’s going to question any Gerber Knife…Quality & Control. At the time in which I received the Gerber 06 Auto for testing, I received the Quadrant and Mini Covert as well. All 3 knives have been fantastic in terms of their quality…With the 06 Auto and Mini Covert being the best (rightfully so: higher price point, USA made, etc).
The Gerber 06 Auto fires hard, the buttons are large & reliable, the grind was spot on, it’s been easy to resharpen (even though it holds a great edge)…You get the point. It’s a great knife and it’s well built.
My “End of the World” Folding Knife
We all (either jokingly or seriously) talk about the gear we’d grab if there was no turning back in a bad situation…End of the World gear, if we want to put it that way.
After quite a bit of time to think about it, the Gerber 06 Auto would be the folding knife for me in a really bad situation. I have never felt so much trust in a folding knife before. Whether we’re talking about reliability, performance or sheer strength. I’m confident that the 06 Auto could handle anything I am capable of throwing at it.
Gerber 06 Auto for Everyday Use
Let’s not kid ourselves, the Gerber 06 Auto is one big & beefy knife! So, it’s probably not going to be everybody’s first pick for an Everyday Carry Knife. For me though, I’m the exception to that rule. If I like a knife, I’ll carry it, no matter how large or small it is and I’ll even adjust the rest of my carry around it.
Even though this knife is heavy and on the larger side, it carries extremely well (especially in jeans with more rigid pockets). It does not feel like a brick in your pocket and you still have plenty of room for a front pocket wallet, light, ferro rod, or whatever else you like to carry.
Gerber 06 Auto Review
If you’ve been on the fence about the Gerber 06 Auto, I say go ahead and pull the trigger. It is an extremely tough knife, with a proven track record. And in my experience with it so far, I would absolutely trust my life on this knife.
Who would like the Gerber 06 Auto: Fans of overbuilt gear, military/law enforcement, people who are into tough survival gear, EDC fanatics who aren’t afraid to carry large knives.
