Gerber Assert
My friends over at Gerber recently reached out and asked if I would like to do a custom “Gerber Assert” knife with them. I was, of course, stoked to make this happen after my great experience with my custom “Gerber Fastball” from 2020.
But, before we dive much deeper into the Awaken Edition Assert, let’s talk about the new Gerber Assert as it stands as a production knife:
- Right off the bat, this knife is extremely comfortable to carry with its deep carry clip, thin profile, and lightweight construction. One of my preferred folding knives to carry for several years now has been the Benchmade Bugout. And the new Gerber Assert reminds me of a lot of the things that I love about it.

- Adjustable Thumb Stud for a smooth, non-assisted opening.

I couldn’t be happier with the Awaken customizations that Gerber added to my Assert Knife…
- Gerber’s laser engraving is always spot-on…
This makes my Awaken branding pop very well against the topographical pattern that I chose for the background of this blade! - The color choices that Gerber gives you within the Gerber Custom area of their website really allow you to dial in the look & feel that you want for your individual knife. I’ve really been digging this since we teamed up on my original Awaken Edition Fastball.
- And you know it wouldn’t be an Awaken Edition without my signature pop of Orange 🍊!
Sure, I like the way blaze orange looks…But, this signature pop of orange has always served as a way to make my gear pop against whatever environment I’m in. This is especially handy for quickly finding my gear again if I have to lay it down while I’m doing a task outdoors.

USA Made Gerber Knives
Gerber has created, yet another, fantastic USA Made product here with the Gerber Assert. And I know, I’ve said it in every piece of content that I’ve created about Gerber for a while now…But, they really grabbed my attention since the USA Made Gerber Strongarm was released. That particular knife put them back on the map for me and their USA Made knives have continued to impress me ever since.
