GSI Outdoors Review
I have been a big fan of the gear from GSI Outdoors for many years now. In fact, when I first got into camping and hiking, I would, inevitably, always stroll past their section of products at our local sporting goods stores and I could never resist picking something up. They have a little bit of everything, for every type of outdoor adventurer. The kit I’m going to show below is more of a basecamp and car camping setup. But, if you’re an ultralight adventurer, GSI Outdoors definitely has something for you as well.
As for my basecamp cook set, I am really excited about it! This is a tried and true setup that is built around a 2-Burner Propane Camp Stove. I have wanted a setup like this for a couple of years. And, I can already tell you that it is going to allow me to cook just about anything while I’m in the field for multiple days at events, on family road trips, or wherever else the road takes me! And with Fall and Winter right around the corner, you know I’m already excited about cooking some incredible meals around camp.

GSI Selkirk 540+ Camp Stove
At the heart of my Basecamp Cook Set is the GSI Selkirk 540+ Camp Stove.
- The GSI Selkirk 540+ is a Propane Camp Stove that uses cylindrical propane tanks that you can find in almost every store’s outdoor department.
- The Selkirk 540 Camp Stove features efficient and powerful twin burners. So, you can fry up some bacon and eggs on one side, and toss a kettle on the other for your morning brew.
- Just like the grill you’re already familiar with that sits on your patio, the GSI Selkirk 540 Camp Stove features a single push button ignition to get the stove lit up.
- The pot supports and windscreens are all very well designed and do their jobs well.
- As for aesthetics, you all know I love Blaze Orange. So, I really like the aesthetic of this stove.
Overall, the GSI Selkirk Camp Stove is exactly what I was looking for in a “Basecamp” type of stove and it will serve me well for many years to come.
GSI Glacier Base Camper Large
Building upon my Basecamp Cook Set is the Glacier Stainless Steel Cookset.
- I opted for the size “Large” set of cookware because I am almost always cooking for 3 to 6 people.
- If you need something smaller, check out the size “medium” cook set.
*Need to go even bigger? Try the Troop Cookset. - I also really liked that these pots and skillet are Stainless Steel. This gives me the ability to cook over open flames, in addition to cooking on my Selkirk Camp Stove.
- Another huge win for the Glacier Base Camp Cook Set is that it nests together for maximum space saving…
The large pot houses the smaller pot + lids, and the skillet nests on top of everything. And, when everything is not in use, I like to keep my spices, oils, and utensils inside of the interior pots. - This cook set is, hands down, my favorite that I’ve tried within this size range.

GSI Halulite Tea Kettle
No camp cook set is complete without something to get a warm brew going!
- I opted for the GSI Halulite Tea Kettle for this portion of my Basecamp Cook Set.
- This kettle heats up very quickly on the GSI Selkirk Camp Stove and that’s exactly what I want when I need my morning caffeine.
- The rubberized handle gives you a cool place to grab when you’re ready to pour your water for tea or coffee.

I also have a few other great pieces of camp cookware and accessories that I’ve added to my Basecamp Cook Set…
- GSI Folding Cutting Board:
This cutting board is fantastic. It takes up very little room, it weighs nothing, it gives me a clean surface to cut all of the ingredients for my camp meals, and it’s very easy to clean/disinfect. - GSI Micro Table+:
Okay, I’m not gonna lie, I kinda nerded out on this one. Sure, I could be a savage and put all of my food + gear on the ground. Or, I could get a cool Micro Table to raise everything up from the ground and give myself an additional work surface! This collapsible table is super cool. - GSI Rakau Wooden Tongs:
I am constantly repairing or replacing those cheap department store tongs. So, for this kit, I decided enough was enough, and I got a pair of GSI Tongs. These tongs have zero moving parts and are made of wood that should last for many, many years.
I am beyond happy with my new Basecamp Cook Set from GSI Outdoors. This is a fantastic kit for car camping, base camping, emergencies, power outages, and so much more!
