For me, a Helle Knife is a working heirloom…
Something to be taken care of but not shielded from being used. Helle’s are meant to spend time in the field during the day. Then oiled, stropped & cared for at night so they can be passed down to future generations.
It’s no secret to those who have been with me for a while that I love Helle Knives. I bought my first Helle Knife back in 2016 after watching a video about their process of handmaking each knife and sheath. From then, on…I was hooked (find my first Helle down below).
Finally, I get to show this one…
The 10th Anniversary Edition of the ever-popular Helle Temagami! This time in 14C28N blade steel and a sharp 90º spine right out of the box for use with a ferro rod (or for other scraping tasks). This knife is as beautiful as it is functional in the field. There are less than 600 of these in existence…So click the links below and if you’re lucky these retailers might have a few pop up.
The Gaupe is the knife that started it all for me and Helle. I bought this knife in 2016 and was immediately hooked. I remember selling other gear to save up to buy this knife. Immediately upon buying it I took it out for hike after hike through the surrounding Appalachian Mountains. This will always be a special one for me.
No other Helle Knife has as rich of culture in my eyes as the Helle Lappland. This large tool was designed after the ones used by the indigenous Sámi people. The Helle Lappland is capable of doing anything & everything you can imagine (shelter building, cooking, fire prep, trail maintenance, and more).
The Helle Spire is a breath of fresh air for me. It can certainly be used by anyone, but the Spire was designed for kids. It features a comfortable handle, a large finger guard, and a blunt tip to promote knife safety. This knife is a great teaching tool when the kiddos gather around for whittling sessions.
I love all of my Helle Knives, but if I was forced to choose, I think the Helle Trofé would be my favorite. This knife is so comfortable and I’m in love with the unique antler inserts in the handle. The Trofé is ideal for pairing with a small hatchet and folding saw for year-round camping or bushcrafting.
The Helle Utvaer is another full tang option from Helle Knives. It is very different in its design choices than any other Helle Knife, however. It leans more towards the thinner side than their other knives, but it is still plenty comfortable. It is the perfect blending of modern design with classic materials and functionality.
Keep an eye out, there is more to come in the very near future for Helle Knives! In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed seeing part of my Helle Knives collection.
