This week, Olight announced the brand new S2R Baton II. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one early and carry it for a bit so I could share my thoughts with you all.
Right up front, I have to say, I’m really digging this light! For me, it’s everything I loved about the S10R Baton III (recently reviewed) and then some. The S2R Baton II does a great job of packing a phenomenal amount of performance into a compact package.

Olight S2R Baton II Specs
As I mentioned in my previous Olight S10R Baton III review, I’m not much of a spec-sheet kinda guy. But when it comes to lights, it’s a great point of reference so you know what you’re getting, how long your light is expected to last at different brightness levels, etc. So, let’s take a peek at the advertised specs of the new S2R Baton II, shall we?

Olight S2R Baton II Performance
Right out of the gate, the Olight S2R Baton II is a performer! Coming in under 4″, this little flashlight is packing 1,150 Max Lumens. But, realistically, you’re probably going to linger in the High Mode of 400 Lumens when you need a bright burst of light.
The runtime on the new S2R Baton II is really impressive and gives it an edge over my smaller S10R Baton III. When comparing either light at their equivalent “high” mode (between 300-600 lumens) you’re getting 3+ hours more out of the S2R Baton II. And when we are talking about their 1/2 lumen “moonlight” modes, you’re getting 60 Days out of the S2R Baton II, versus 15 Days from the S10R Baton III.
The level of performance and runtime from the S2R Baton II is impressive, to say the least. I feel like this bump in performance lends the S2R Baton II to being used for professionals within law enforcement, emergency medical services and other types of first response jobs. And, if it can handle the rigors of those jobs while packing enough longevity for late night shifts, it can handle the average persons EDC very well.
Olight S2R Baton II Modes & Ease of Use
I’ve become a huge fan of Olight’s modes and controls. So I’ll keep this point simple and say I love it based on my experience (if you’re unfamiliar with how Olight’s work, you can see an entire breakdown in my S10R Baton II review here).
Once you’ve gotten used to operating Olight’s it becomes second nature to depress the side switch and quickly cycle through to whichever mode you need. The progression between modes simply makes sense.

Olight S2R Baton II Ergonomics
The Olight S2R Baton II is the perfect size for me. It easily slips into my pocket and doesn’t irritate me to carry it (like some other medium-sized EDC lights). It’s pretty thin in diameter as well, which helps it to remain comfortable in my pocket.
Once I do put the light into action it fills my hand very well and has great texturing, so I don’t feel like I’m going to lose it (even in wet conditions). Again, it just feels right for me.
Olight S2R Baton II vs S10R Baton III
As I’ve already mentioned, the Olight S2R Baton II does have an edge over the S10R Baton III in terms of max lumens & runtime (which is justified by a larger 18650 Battery). But to me, they are 2 different lights in terms of application. I’ll do my best to try to help with your decision below though if you’re choosing between the two.
Do you want to carry a larger light (S2R) that comes with extra weight and size, or do you want something super compact & light (S10R)? Do you need the longer run times of the S2R Baton II versus the S10R Baton III? For me, it really boils down to those main points.
As for me, I’m stoked to have both lights and can choose between them based on what I’m wearing and what applications I could need my light for. For simple EDC I’m likely going to reach for my S10R Baton II. But for the outdoors and times where I’ll be in darkness for extended periods of time, I’m going with the S2R Baton II, for sure.

Olight S2R Baton II Review (10 out of 10)
I have fallen in love with the Olight S2R Baton II during my short time with it. For me, it’s enough of a difference from the S10R Baton III in some ways (runtime & ergonomics) to justify having both. But at the same time, it keeps a lot of the features that I love about the S10R and remains familiar enough when I switch between the two.
If you’re looking to pick one of these new S2R Baton II‘s up for yourself, I’d highly recommend it!
