Ontario Knife Company Closing
As a small business owner, I hate to hear the news of Ontario Knife Company closing its doors. Just the same, as a knife enthusiast, I have really hated hearing this news as well. Ontario Knife Company, born in 1889, is such a legendary company and I’ll bet we’ve all handled one of their knives at some point in our life. (If you missed this announcement of their selling & closing, you can read the full article here.)
Down below, I want to talk about some Ontario Knives that I highly recommend you pick up before they’re gone, as well as a few that I snagged for myself, just a few minutes ago.

Old Hickory Knives
One of the best values in knives has and always will be Old Hickory Knives. I love these knives for bushcraft, food prep, and field-dressing animals or cleaning fish. They are simple, affordable, and get the job done with old-world ease…Just like Grandpa would’ve done it.

Ontario Rat Folder
Wanna talk about another high-value knife? This is probably the best value in folding knives out there…The Ontario Rat. I have loved every Ontario Rat that I’ve ever picked up. They are razor sharp, have great blade centering, take a beating, and always ask for more. It will be a real shame is this knife design doesn’t live on past the company being sold. So, get one now if you’ve been on the fence.
Ontario Knives to Buy Now
As you will read below…The future of Ontario Knife Company’s catalog is uncertain, at this point. So, it’s a good idea to go ahead and snag some knife models that you might want right now before they are possibly gone for good. In fact, I snagged 3 just a few minutes ago.

I have wanted this monster of a blade for several years now, but never pulled the trigger because “eh, it’ll always be there if I want it”. Well, I cannot say that with confidence now. So, I went ahead and snagged this one and I cannot wait to put it through its paces in some upcoming survival training! - Ontario Black Bird: SMKW.com • Amazon.com
This knife is a legend in the survival world. In fact, one of the first people I ever talked about “survival” with carried an Ontario Black Bird religiously on his outdoor ventures. I remember wanting one of them so badly at the time, but I couldn’t justify the price. It remained that “knife I will eventually pick up” for nearly 10 years. So, I really didn’t want this one to get away. - Old Hickory Fish & Small Game Knife: SMKW.com • Amazon.com
2 days ago, my wife and I were in Smoky Mountain Knifeworks. I told her “Hey, this Fish & Small Game Knife would make an excellent kitchen knife for us”. We meandered around the store for a while and I ended up saying: “Ah, they’ll be here anytime we want one – we’ll just pick one up later”. Yes, that’s how the conversation happened. So, I went ahead and snagged one on SMKW website. Now, I wish I had picked up a second one (that might just happen when my gear budget opens back up again).
Buy Ontario Knives
If you have had your eye on some Ontario Knives, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet, I highly recommend snagging them now. The future of Ontario Knife Company’s catalog is, currently, uncertain. And the secondary market of any Ontario Knife or Old Hickory knife will certainly go up from here.
I hope you can find what you want now. Below are some links to my trusted partners in the knife industry, as well as Amazon.
