I have purposely held off on sharing more about the Outdoor Vitals Tern Hoodie until I had a chance to use it in multiple seasons of weather. If I’m being honest though, I knew it was going to perform well. But, I needed that hands-on field time with it, just to make sure!
As a point of reference, I have been a HUGE fan of Outdoor Vitals Clothing for several years. I have used their down jackets in the harshest of weather conditions & they’ve always performed perfectly. But, this is my first time ever having anything from them that wasn’t a winter-style jacket.
Ultralight Merino Wool Hoodie
The Outdoor Vitals Tern Hoodie is something special in my closet. It is one of the most versatile layering items that I have. Here are some quick specs and things that I like the most about it…
- 58% Merino Wool:
This hoodie is naturally resistant to bacteria & odors (I can attest to this after some funky days in the outdoors while wearing it)…Among all of the other benefits of Merino Wool (ie: moisture-wicking, highly breathable, durable, soft, etc). - Versatile:
The Merino Wool Tern Hoodie is an excellent layering option in the colder months. But, it is also a fantastic standalone option in the warm months as it is highly breathable and moisture-wicking. - SUPER Comfy:
If you developed a rash from simply hearing the word “wool”, get that out of your mind. Merino Wool is definitely not that old pair of “wool” military socks that you’re thinking about. This bad boy is one of the most comfortable hoodies I have ever worn! - Ultra Packable:
I almost always have this hoodie stuffed into my fishing or travel bag. It fits anywhere and weighs nothing. - High Neck & Hood:
I particularly like the neck and hood on the Outdoor Vitals Tern Hoodie. The neck is high and the hood covers fully (but it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a bag over your head). I like this a lot when I’m trying to trap heat and/or block my skin from too much exposure to the outside elements. - UPF Rating 36+
Speaking of sun exposure…That’s the reason why I waited to review this hoodie ’till it got warm outside. This hoodie helps guard my skin on sunny days while still remaining cool enough to wear. I really appreciate this versus lathering up with sunscreen. - Price:
As with any clothing item that is Merino Wool, the Tern Hoodie is not cheap. But, you get what you pay for and it will last for years to come. You can judge whether it’s worth the price or not.
Best Ultralight Merino Wool Hoodie
Yet again, I am happy to put my stamp of approval on a piece of Outdoor Vitals clothing. This Merino Wool Hoodie has become a go-to on my outdoor adventures. And it will certainly keep its place in my camping or fishing loadouts from here on out.
