The little brother to one of my all-time favorite knives, the Tops Tanimboca Puukko, made its way into my rotation in October of 2020! As soon as I received it, I knew it was going to be an excellent fine carving knife. It fits into a gap (literally & figuratively) that my larger bushcraft knives do not. While it is an excellent companion to a 3 1/2″ or larger knife, it also does a good job when you have an ax along and just need to clean things up with a sharp/precise blade.

Tops Mini Tanimboca Puukko Review
The Tops Mini Tanimboca Puukko is proving itself to be as handy as a shirt pocket out in the field. From cutting cordage around the campsite to detailed carvings on things like spoons or notches, this knife does it well. It is essentially my utility knife in the field.
Here are some of the main points about the knife that I’ve discovered so far…
- It wears very well around the neck. And if I’m being honest, it looks super cool when you’re wearing it.
- Speaking of cool…This is a really awesome-looking knife. It’s unique and not like a lot of other knives on the market right now.
- The blade is razor-sharp and easy to maintain in the field (as with all Tops knives).
- The 90º spine shreds a ferro rod or tree bark for tinder bundles.
- The knife and sheath are as high quality as anything else that you would purchase from Tops.
- It is shockingly smaller than I had imagined. So, a beefy lanyard is required in my opinion.
- This is NOT going to replace a full-sized bushcraft knife for me. It serves best as a secondary knife to a larger blade/tool.
I’ll continue to keep you all posted on my thoughts about this knife as I use it more. In the meantime, if you have any questions just ask.
