I am a total firebug at camp and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Everything from collecting our campfire fuel, kindling, tinder and starting the fire…It’s my jam! So, as you can imagine, I’ve got some pretty neat tricks up my sleeve when it comes to my fire-kit. One of those things is the UCO Sweetfire Fire Starters. If you’re not familiar with these fire starters, let’s go ahead and dive into them below!
UCO Sweetfire Review
UCO Sweetfire is a strikable fire starter made from renewable biofuel (sugarcane to be exact). Sweetfire comes in at around 10 bucks for a box of 20.
This planet-friendly fire starter has a very large strikable tip and is infused with vegetable wax for longer burn times. How long? 7 Minutes is what UCO Claims on their site and packaging. And I personally would not protest that, as it burned a very long time in my testing. I didn’t personally track its burn time, but I was able to easily get a fire going in wet and dry conditions with the Sweetfire.
Super Easy To Use
If you’ve used any kind of match, you’ll know the gist of how to use Sweetfire. Simply break one off from the row, strike it on the box and let that baby burn!
Super Hot!
Okay, I’m gonna level with you all here and tell you some behind the scenes intel (I’m slightly embarrassed). I framed up my shot for what you have seen above using a non-lit Sweetfire. As soon as I struck it against the box, I brought the lit Sweetfire into the frame and it went up like a rocket. Almost burning my fingertips off I dropped it like a total newbie. The Sweetfire still kept burning!
So, let me just say this, based on my dummy experience. The UCO Sweetfire Fire Starters are super hot…Way hotter than any other matches or strikable ignition source I’ve tried. And clearly, it will not die either, even if it’s been dropped. After I dropped it, I was able to pick it back up for the photo above, then transfer it to my fire ring where it continued to burn and get my fire going for the evening.
Convenience For The Win
I’m as much of tinkerer in the outdoors as anyone and I love to get bushcrafty using fire steels/ferrocerium rods. But sometimes, you just want to get the fire going and not fuss with anything (ie: in wet conditions, or in the morning when you’ve woken up cold). These Sweetfire Fire Starters will absolutely get things going like the 4th of July…Very quickly too, I might add.
Do I Recommend UCO Sweetfire Firestarters?
Yeah, no doubt! I love the UCO SweetFire Firestarters. In fact, after I burn through these (see what I did there) I plan on buying some more for my fire kit!
If you’re looking to buy the UCO Sweetfire Firestarters for yourself, I would definitely recommend them! (Available on Amazon)
