How I use the Viking Whetstone
I personally use the Wazoo Viking Whetstone as a way to touch up and hone my blades after a day of work in the field. Or sooner, if I feel like the performance of my edge is beginning to suffer as I’m working. I would not recommend letting your blade get really dull because the grit of this stone could struggle to remove enough material in that case.
The process for using a smaller stone like this is a bit different than a large bench stone. You essentially have to make small circular motions up & down your blade several times. I made a short video showing this method (here) if you’d like to see it in action.
Everyday Carry Knife Sharpener
I recently launched my EDC Survival Kit (if you haven’t seen this kit yet, I would highly recommend you open it in a new tab to read after this review). This EDC Kit is very compact, yet highly useful. The only downside of a small kit like this one versus a large kit is, of course, the lack of physical space. And with that said, one thing that would definitely have to be left out is a bulky sharpening system.
But that’s where the Wazoo Survival Viking Whetstone comes in as part of my on-person EDC (things I either wear or carry in my pockets every single day). I always have this sharpener around my neck and I literally never take it off. This allows me to always have a way of sharpening & maintaining my tools. It’s honestly the only sharpening system I’ve ever found that is this easy to carry.

Up to this point, we’ve established that this is a very easy knife sharpener to carry and it looks awesome! But, now I want to wrap this up in a few points to share my overall opinions & usage of the Viking Whetstone Necklace…
- The Wazoo Viking Whetstone necklace weighs very little and you hardly feel it around your neck.
- It does a fantastic job of restoring an edge to knives, fishing hooks, and other edged tools. Just be sure they don’t get super dull before you sharpen them.
- The Viking Whetstone is clearly designed by folks who get out and use their products before bringing them to the market. This shows based on my personal field experience with it.
- It is very well made and holds up to constant wear/use.
- I know I’ve said this one a lot, but you will not find an easier-to-carry sharpener than this one. For me, this is one of the biggest reasons I had to own it and why I wear it 24/7.
